SYNOPSIS
eating in the dark is a TELL ALL documentary about the grassroots movement fighting for transparency and SOVEREIGNTY WITHIN the american food system. spanning over five years, we are taken on a roller coaster of highs and lows that opposing one of the most powerful industries in the world involves.
the story begins in california with pamm larry, a grandmother whose spark will light a thousand flames. DEPRESSED AND in despair about gmos in the food supply, she realizes she has to stand up to the agrochemical industry and do something about the threat to food sovereignty. it is this impulse that plants the seed for proposition 37 - an act to label genetically engineered foods. MEANWHILE on the other side of the country, a handful of mothers in the tiny state of connecticut have started their own campaign to pass a law, through the state legislature, to label gmos.
AROUND THE SAME TIME, british documentarist zofia hausman is knee deep in research after being struck down with debilitating allergies soon after moving to the U.S. INEVITABLY, she discovers the prevalence of gmos in the food supply and the cause of her allergies. the evidence is shocking and she is compelled to connect all of the dots and make it public.

in july 2016, President Obama betrayed the american public and signed into law Senate Bill 764, known to many as the DARK act (Deny Americans the Right to Know). The DARK Act was devised in a back room deal by agrochemical industry lobbyists and their allies in Congress (democrats as well as Republicans) to prevent Vermont from implementing a mandatory GMO labeling law on food packaging.
now more than ever, it IS CRITICAL that the public is aware they have been stripped of knowing whether gmos are in their food. it is critical they are aware of a newly emerging legal right of agrochemical corporations to do whatever they want, regardless of county and state laws created to protect public health, safety and the environment from Genetically engineered crops and toxic pesticides in our food, water and soil.
